Matt O'Neill | Osteopath at Alpha Sports Medicine

Dr. Matthew O’Neill graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Science (Clinical Science) and a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy).  Prior to this, Matthew completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with a major in genetics at La Trobe University as well as a Certificate III and IV in Fitness to become a qualified personal trainer.

Matt has experience treating a variety injuries, but has a particular passion for sport and gym related injuries.  He grew up participating is a number of sports, notably tennis which he played for 15 years, however martial arts has been his passion since his early teen years.  Matthew received his Black belt in Shito-Ryu Karate at Shogun Martial Arts and taught teen and senior karate for 3 years.  He then transitioned into kickboxing, muay thai and mixed martial arts training at highly regarded gyms including Renegade MMA and Hangar 4.  In 2019, Matthew had a big involvement with the Footscray Lacrosse Club running warm ups and injury management programs.

In Matthew’s final year of his Masters he received a scholarship to do an exchange program at the British School of Osteopathy (now the University College of Osteopathy) in London.  This experience opened Matthew up to the potential applications of manual therapy in the preservation of quality of life of people from different backgrounds, which has been invaluable in his working career.

Outside of Osteopathy Matthew enjoys having a few drinks with his friends, going to the gym, playing video games and planning his next trip somewhere around the world.
